McKayla Maroney Claims USA Gymnastics Paid Her To Preserve Sexual Abuse Allegations Secret

McKayla Maroney’s legal professional, John Manly, filed a lawsuit for the Olympic gold medalist towards USA Gymnastics in Los Angeles County Superior Court docket Wednesday in accusing the group of hiding Maroney’s sexual abuse allegation towards former group physician Larry Nassar from the general public, based on a number of reviews.

In line with the Wall Road Journal, Maroney signed a confidential $1.25 million settlement settlement in late 2016 so she wouldn’t focus on her sexual abuse allegations. The lawsuit goals to invalidate components of the settlement, claiming the nondisclosure and non-disparagement clauses are unlawful. Manly was not a part of the negotiations of the settlement.

In October, Maroney revealed on Twitter that she had been abused by Nassar beginning when she was 13. Though this was a violation of the phrases of the settlement, Manley stated the possibilities of a countersuit are low, based on ESPN.

Along with USA Gymnastics, the lawsuit additionally names the USA Olympic Committee, Nassar and Nassar’s full-time employer, Michigan State College, as defendants.

In November, Nassar pleaded responsible to seven counts of first-degree prison sexual conduct in Lansing, Mich.
