What we usually do when it comes to our cell phones is hold them close to us in case we should get a call or a text message we need to answer right away.
What is more, most young people dont even go to bed without their cell phones. Scientists warn against this constant necessity to be connected claiming that it might be killing us slowly.
ARE MOBILE PHONES SAFE?
The bad effects of keeping a cell phone close to your body have always been a common truth. One cancer patient shared her story of how she most probably got cancer with the Environmental Health Trust.
Cancer specialists, John West and Robert Nagourney, were puzzled as to what led to the development of multi-focal breast cancer in this patient as she had no risk factors for cancer. Only after she confessed to keeping her cell phone into her bra every day, did the doctors find the clue.
Shockingly, the distribution of cancerous cells in her breast i.e. the cancer pattern was perfectly matching the shape of her cell phone.
Despite the fact that doctors are still unable to confirm the connection between cell phones and cancer, there is powerful evidence that identifies cell phones as possible causes for most cases of cancer.
THE RISK OF WEARING A CELL PHONE
The World Health Organization and the International Agency for Research on Cancer Cell phonesconsider the radiofrequency electromagnetic fields, continually broadcast by cell phones, possibly carcinogenic to humans.
As long as your cell phone is on, it constantly emits radiation so its vital to remember that the most harmful area for your body to be near a radiation source is anywhere within 6 inches.
As your entire body is at risk it is recommended to keep your cell phone at a safe distance. However, its also worth noting that some areas of your body are more susceptible to radiation than others.
WHY WE SHOULD PUT DOWN THE CELL PHONES
According to a 2009 study, lower bone density is common in men carrying their cell phones on their belt and it is on the side of the pelvis where they keep their mobile.
Dr. Siegal Sadetzki conducted another study in the same year which identified cell phones as a risk factor for parotid tumors. The research revealed a dramatic increase of cancer risk on the side of the head where you usually speak on your cell phone.
If youve used a cell phone regularly for 5 years your chances of developing parotid tumor rise by 34% and by 58% if youve had over 5,500 calls in your lifetime on a mobile phone. If the amount of time spent on a cell phone is more than 266.3 hours during your lifetime theres a 49% increase of risk.
INCREASED RISK IN CHILDREN
Teenagers who use cell phones heavily are 4-5 times more likely to develop brain cancer later in their lives according to Professor Lennart Hardell.
The reason for this lies in the fact that the skull in children and teenagers is not fully developed which enables radiation to travel easily to the brain unlike in adults.
Therefore, its highly recommended to allow your children to use this dangerous mobile device only when theyre old enough.
